BJP State Chief Bats for UCC in Telangana

Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday called for implementation of the Single Civil Code (UCC) in Telangana, saying a common civil code would give clear legal rights to women and children over property and adoption – while exempting the customs of Scheduled Tribes.
Speaking at the party’s cadre training camp under Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shikshan Maha Abhiyan at Moinabad in Rangareddy district, Rao said the UCC was not anti-religious and noted that states such as Uttarakhand, Goa and Assam had already enacted similar measures.
He likened the importance of UCC to landmark steps like the Modi government’s abrogation of Article 370 and recalled the nationwide ratification when Triple Talaq was abolished.
Rao attacked the political culture of the Congress and the BRS, accusing them of both encouraging subversive elements and a similar mindset.
Referring to former BRS MP Balka Suman’s controversial remarks, he accused both parties of misleading unemployed youth and students, criticized the previous BRS government for cheating and the current Congress administration for not providing jobs and refunding wages.
He also condemned the state government’s procurement failures after unseasonal rains drenched paddy, maize and paddy at purchasing centres, saying farmers were abandoned despite promises to “buy to the last grain” and the government put the blame on the Centre.
The BJP leader reaffirmed that the party will continue to press for farmers’ rights until the Rythu Gosa-BJP Bharosa yatra concluded in Nirmal (Sarangapur) brings justice. He warned BJP leaders and workers against intimidation through fake cases or house arrest.
Rao welcomed the Supreme Court’s approval of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and accused the opposition parties, including the Congress, BRS and MIM, of spreading malicious propaganda to undermine the process of eliminating fake and dead voters.
In a related development, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman lauded the top court’s decision as a confirmation of the constitutionality of the SIR and the authority of the Election Commission.
He said the verdict exposed what he described as “lies” by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, alleging that the opposition was trying to politicize the app as a secret National Register of Citizens.
Dr Laxman accused INDIA bloc leaders of pursuing vote bank politics and undermining electoral credibility after recent poll defeats.
