Skyhooks guitarist Bob Starkie dies aged 73

Last month, Starkie canceled 50th anniversary shows for the band’s seminal debut album living in the 70’s due to ill health.

Quoted in the same post, Starkie’s daughter, Indiana, “left peacefully listening to Chuck Berry. Surrounded by friends and family, cuddling her fur baby, Bonnie.”

The five were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1992. living in the 70’sProduced by Ross Wilson, the film was added to the National Film and Sound Archive in 2011.

This album sold over 300,000 copies despite six of its 10 tracks being banned from radio due to their references to sex and drugs.

Starkie joined the band in August 1973, replacing his brother Peter, who had helped found the band. Peter died in 2020 at the age of 72 after falling down a flight of stairs.

Young Starkie proved to be the perfect foil to the band’s lead guitarist, Red Symons, with his dueling solos at the halfway point. You only like me because I’m good in bed a particular highlight of their six-string partnership.
