Two people died in falling trees during heavy rains in Mumbai; The number of deaths has increased to 3 since June 30
As heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai on Sunday, an 18-year-old motorcyclist and a senior citizen died in tree collapse incidents, taking the death toll from such tragedies in the city to three in less than a week.
According to civic officials, a tree collapsed on a shop near Indian BMC School in West Kurla’s Naupada area around 12.40 pm.
The victim, Yunus Kundawala, was rescued from the debris and taken to Fauzia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the site and also announced immediate financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old boy died when a tree branch fell on him while he was riding a motorbike in Aarey Colony area of Goregaon East.
