Consumer Protection warns of roof repair conmen swindling WA households out of tens of thousands of dollars

Door cutting conmens are defrauding WA households for tens of thousands of dollars for small roof repairs they have not completed.
On Wednesday, consumer protection issued a warning after two men who said that the roofs of an elderly Hillman couple required their roofs, cleaning, tubpointting and small fascia board repairs.
Without quoting, men started to work and instructed the double to take a check for $ 18,645 and deposit directly to the bank account.
This allowed the bank to skip the surveillance security cameras and cover their traces of money.
The pair of Parmelia experienced a similar ordeal when they approached their doors by a man who used a white ute who used sales tactics to convince him to clean his roofs at his doors.
Initially, the couple, who quoted $ 1,950, was forced to pay $ 2,145 allegedly welcomed.
Shortly after the man left, he noticed that he had not completed the promised tasks and new water leaks appeared from the roof.
The landlords later discovered that security cameras were deliberately replaced by the facility and prevented any appearance of the caught man.
Consumer Protection Commissioner Trish Blake called on Wa Households to turn the door ringing trades.
“These conmens are transported from town to town using high-pressure tactics to force over-expensive roof restoration work to force the restoration work-especially a little or no real work,” he said.
“They clearly violate the Australian Consumer Law by ignoring the compulsory 10 -day cooling time for unwanted approaches. No payment should be made during this period and not legally allowed.
“In these recent reports, what is particularly related is that the group cannot provide official quotes or contact information and does not leave any way to follow consumers.
“Without a written quote that determines expectations and provides legal protection, the rights of the victims are further rejected.
“Consumers who want to do this work should always seek multiple written quotes to compare the price and value, and in advance by requesting a reference to research traders and viewing examples of previous studies.”
Anyone who hit the door from the traders offering roof restoration services should say ‘no’ and call the consumer protection on 1300 30 40 54.
