Idaho Killer Bryan Kohberger’s Staggering Prison Fund Revealed As Victims’ Families Demand Restitution

Bryan Kohberger‘s Victims are seeking access to the money the convicted killer currently has, as well as potential future earnings from projects related to his case.
Idaho prosecutors presented this argument at a recent hearing; It also revealed the convicted killer had received “five-figure” donations from sympathizers since his arrest in 2022.
Bryan Kohberger was not present at the hearing, although he had the opportunity to attend virtually from his current position at the Idaho Maximum Security Agency.

On Wednesday, November 5, Idaho prosecutors returned to court to argue that Bryan Kohberger should be given access to funds he already holds, as well as potential profits from movies or books related to the case.
The controversy follows previous filings in which prosecutors sought more than $26,000 in additional compensation for some victims to cover expenses such as travel, lodging and funeral expenses.
According to Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson, he and his team initially believed the tab would be covered by the Crime Victim Compensation Fund, but later realized that was not the case.
But after Judge Steven Hippler declared that Kohberger’s plea agreement with the state did not include these additional financial obligations and that “plea agreements are construed as contracts,” Thompson dropped the request for travel expenses but continued to seek reimbursement for other expenses.

Following the reshuffle, the amount prosecutors were seeking to cover the cost of the jars of Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, whom Kohberger brutally murdered along with two other students at their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, was reduced to $3,075.58.
according to Daily MailThe defense, led by attorney Elisa Massoth, opposed the request, arguing that Kohberger did not have a source of income to cover the previously agreed upon compensation and had no means of earning money to pay it because he was incarcerated.
Thompson then countered with a response that the victims’ families should be entitled to compensation from any potential future income Kohberger might earn, including profits from a possible book or movie deal related to the case.
However, Massoth noted that there are currently “no movies or books in the works” about the convicted killer, adding that the possibility is merely “speculation.”

Amid the back-and-forth during the hearing, it was revealed that Kohberger had received “five-figure” donations since his incarceration.
While the exact amount remains unclear, it is believed that the convicted murderer had access to these funds despite being in prison.
Following this statement, Massoth argued that most of the money came from Kohberger’s family so that they could “maintain contact with their son and brother” while Kohberger was incarcerated.
But the total amount turned out to be significantly higher than the amount inmates needed for phone calls, raising questions about the defense’s explanation.
During the hearing, Judge Hippler refrained from making an immediate decision, instead opting to take the matter for advice and rule at a later date.
Still, the issue may not ultimately favor the defense, as the judge appeared unconvinced by arguments that Kohberger would be unable to earn potential future income.

Although Kohberger had the option to attend the hearing virtually, he chose not to because he waived his right to attend.
He is currently being held in Block J at the Idaho Maximum Security Prison in Kuna, where he is serving multiple life sentences for his crimes.
Because his housing unit is designed for limited movement, Kohberger spends 23 hours a day in his cell, with only one hour devoted to outdoor recreation.

Reports indicate that the convicted murderer’s life behind bars has been largely uneventful, apart from occasional complaints about his treatment.
Early in his incarceration, Kohberger reportedly complained about not being able to access JPay, the system inmates use to receive money from loved ones and supporters.
The issue was eventually resolved when Kohberger later sent a thank you note to a staff member acknowledging that he had provided access.
