Cruz warns Trump will be impeached if Democrats win the House in midterms

Republican Senator Ted Cruz insists President Donald Trump will be “impeached again and again” if Democrats win back control of the House of Representatives in this year’s midterm elections.

And in a sit-down interview with Fox News Digital this week, the fervent conservative and three-term senator from Texas pointed to the agenda Trump and Republicans are pushing in Congress, arguing that if Democrats win both the House and Senate majorities in the midterm elections, they will “do everything they can to burn it down.”

Republicans, struggling to maintain their slim majorities in both the House and Senate, are battling stiff political headwinds as the party in power in the nation’s capital traditionally loses seats in midterm elections. They also face a difficult political climate fueled by economic concerns about persistent inflation, an unpopular war with Iran and Trump’s secretive approval ratings.

“I think these midterm elections are incredibly important,” said Cruz, who won re-election in 2024 and is not on the ballot this year.

And the senator promised: “I’m fighting for us to win the midterm elections, I’m fighting for us to keep the House, I’m fighting for us to keep the Senate and ideally to grow our majorities in both chambers.”

“If Democrats take the House, we won’t pass any meaningful legislation for the next two years, and we’ll see the president being impeached over and over again. Meanwhile, it won’t matter what it’s for. They’ll impeach President Trump just because they hate him, because he’s Donald Trump,” Cruz said.

And he argued: “If they take the House, we will see investigations attacking the administration in every House committee.”

Cruz said the consequences for Trump and the GOP would be even worse if Democrats also win back the Senate.

“If they take the Senate, we would see an almost complete halt to Senate confirmations of Cabinet members. I think these radical Democrats would leave cabinet offices vacant, empty, rather than confirm President Trump’s nominees. I think judicial nominations. If the Democrats take the Senate, they would essentially halt judicial nominations,” he claimed.

And he charged: “I think Chuck Schumer and the radicals are so extreme that if they get the majority, they will do everything they can to destroy it.”

But Democrats argue that it was President Trump who sparked the match because of what Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, called Trump’s “hurtful and harmful agenda.”

“President Trump is creating a toxic agenda that is hurting people, and they are looking for leadership from Democrats to get them out of this nightmare,” Gillibrand said in an interview with Fox News Digital last month.

Democratic National Committee Emergency Response Director Kendall Witmer also told Fox News Digital: “If Democrats take Congress, Republicans won’t be able to give massive tax cuts to billionaires, close nursing homes and rural hospitals, bomb foreign countries instead of feeding children, or turn a blind eye to Trump’s blatant and egregious corruption.”

Cruz is returning to Texas this weekend and will address a crowd in Dallas on Saturday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, better known by its acronym CPAC.

However, the May 1 halt in the state of Iowa, which has kicked off the race for the Republican presidential nomination for half a century, fuels speculation that Cruz is preparing for his second White House race.

Cruz finished second to Trump in the 2016 GOP presidential primary and considered running once again in the 2024 cycle before deciding to seek re-election to the Senate.

Asked by Fox News Digital whether he was seriously considering another campaign for the White House, Cruz replied, “We’ll have plenty of time to make those decisions. I don’t have any announcements for you today.”

But he appears to be laying the groundwork for a possible bid, as he is now positioning himself as a conservative alternative to Vice President J.D. Vance, Trump’s MAGA and America First heir apparent.

Cruz attracted attention with his clashes with far-right figures like Tucker Carlson, strengthening his already strong position among conservative leaders and donors. And he amplified his grassroots outreach with his popular and widely downloaded podcast ‘Verdict with Ted Cruz’.

In his Fox Digital interview, Cruz also shared what appears to be the beginning of a possible conversation in 2028.

“When I look back on the last year with President Trump in the White House and the Republican Senate in the house, we accomplished more last year than Congress and the president have accomplished in the previous 13 years that I’ve been here. That’s an incredible record of success that we’ve been able to produce. And so my focus is, first of all, to continue to deliver results, to continue to deliver great gains for the American people,” Cruz said. he said.

Cruz emphasized that he is the author of the book “No taxes on tips.” I wrote this law.” The cuts were one of the tax provisions in the GOP’s massive domestic policy bill, which passed almost entirely along party lines last summer.
