POLL: Has King Charles made a mistake meeting Donald Trump? | Royal | News

Their Royal Highnesses arrived at Joint Base Andrews near Washington DC at around 7.35pm UK time on Monday. They were then taken to the White House, where they were welcomed by the President of the United States. Donald Trump and his wife Melania.

So what do you think? Should the King have met with Mr. Trump or was it a mistake? Vote in our poll and comment in the comment section below.

The king’s visit comes at a turbulent time due to the US President’s war against Iran.

In the incident that took place at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, it was seen that the US President, who had previously been the target of the assassination attempt, was quickly evacuated by Secret Service agents along with other senior members of the administration.

The suspect, who was said to be carrying a shotgun and handgun on Saturday, was identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California.

It is understood he was a guest at the Washington Hilton hotel where the event was held and faces charges including assaulting a police officer with a dangerous weapon, but acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said additional charges would be filed.

Mr Trump called Britain’s approach to the Iran war “appalling” and repeatedly attacked Sir Keir Starmer; at one point he described him as “no Winston Churchill”.

And reports suggest Sir Keir may review the US position on the Falklands in retaliation for its lack of support for the war in Iran.

The monarchy’s soft power diplomacy is the UK’s most powerful weapon in support of its overseas interests, and there will be hope in Downing Street that Charles and Camilla can help put the UK-US special relationship on a firmer footing.
