Two people were hospitalized as a result of the collision between a motorcycle and a heavy commercial vehicle.

National Highways said the A1(M) in County Durham was closed in both directions between J63 (Chester le Street) and J62 (Durham) due to a “serious collision”.

The accident occurred around 16.50. The blocked traffic was released at 19.45.

Durham Emergency Services arrived on scene.

National Highways traffic officers and service providers attended the scene and assisted with traffic management.

“Due to the nature of the incident and ongoing investigation efforts, closures are expected to continue overnight,” National Highways said. he said.
