AISA calls for ‘Bihar Bandh’ on July 25, against police lathi charge on protesting students
Friday, July 24, 2026, witnessed protest marches and dharna in various parts of Bihar by students and locals demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Protesters carrying banners, posters and banners took out protest marches in Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Khagaria, Darbhanga, Bettiah (West Champaran), Supaul, Jamui, Samastipur, Madhubani and Buxar. In Vaishali, protesters burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dharmendra Pradhan.
Police had to open 20 to 30 rounds of fire after protesters threw stones at the official residence of the District Magistrate in Jehanabad last evening. Jehanabad SP office released photographs of over a hundred protesters on July 24, 2026 and appealed to locals to identify them so that legal action can be taken against them.
Jehanabad SP Kota Kiran Kumar took out a flag march along with 300 police jawans today in view of the ongoing security issues and protests in the state. Mr. Kumar maintained that the police were on high alert to maintain peace and public safety. He added that police at all stations in the area are constantly patrolling major intersections.
Patna police also released photographs of more than 100 miscreants who damaged public property and beat up police and media personnel.
“Some unruly elements attacked the police force during the demonstrations in Gandhi Maidan and Income Tax Department areas of Patna district on July 22, 2026. Police vehicles were damaged. Common citizens and media personnel were also attacked with sticks, batons, bricks and stones,” said a press release from the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patna.
The statement further said, “Through social media, such miscreants are identified and their photos/pictures are published. Please help Patna Police to identify these unruly elements. Identify the persons based on the serial number of the photo and forward this information to Patna Police at 0612-2217000, 9939919191 so that legal action can be taken against them.”
Heavy police force has been deployed in all districts of Bihar after the All India Students Association (AISA) called for Bihar Bandh on 25 July 2026 against the police attack on students in Patna on 22 July.
Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Bihar State Secretary Kunal strongly condemned the police lathi charge, dismissal and arrest of students protesting against alleged NEET paper leak in various parts of Bihar and stated that such suppression of democratic rights is a matter of serious concern for any democratic system.
He stated that police action has been taken against peaceful student protests in 18 districts of Bihar so far, which clearly shows that the government has chosen the path of oppression rather than accepting its failures.
Mr. Kunal claimed that AISA Foreign Minister Dipankar Mishra and Vice President Saba Afrin were arrested by the police in Patna and there was no information about their whereabouts.
“This is a clear violation of the rule of law and civil rights. The police must immediately share the details of their arrest and unconditionally release them along with the other students arrested.” said Kunal.
He stated that fabricated cases have been filed against many AISA leaders and activists, including CPI(ML) MLC Shashi Yadav and MLA Sandeep Saurabh.
He added that CPI(ML) will increase its moral support for Bihar Bandh.
“The party appeals to students, youth, parents and citizens who believe in democracy across the state to support the Bandh. At the same time, the student community is called upon to continue their movement in a completely peaceful, democratic and lawful manner so that their voices reach the entire society more strongly,” he said.
