Health Minister Mark Butler said that the collapse of the Middle East Armistice negotiations was sad and frustrated and that he wanted the negotiations to return and end the conflict.

The mediators of the United States were directed to the Israeli negotiators to move away from the ceasefire talks in Qatar after the same movement. US Special Ambassador Steve Witkoff accused Hamas of the last breakdown in the negotiations and said that his team will “think about alternative options now” to secure the stability in the region.

Speaking at ABC News Breakfast, Butler encouraged all parties to return to the negotiation table with a target to end the conflict.

Butler, “This, again, sad, disappointing, the position in Gaza, the fact that hostages remain there, the terrible human position for the people of Gaza cannot be sustained.”

“The pain should end. Hostages should return. Innocent civilians in Gaza should stop being subject to the conditions they are subject to.”

Butler refused to withdraw to a question that questioned whether Australia would do more to support security and peace in the Middle East, and said it was a “sensitive situation ve and confirmed the request of the government to end the conflict.
