Hakimi Morocco: Achraf Hakimi of Morocco is playing against Scotland despite France court declares he must stand trial

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi will take to the field in Friday’s World Cup match against Scotland after an appeal court in France confirmed he should stand trial on rape charges. Paris Saint-Germain defender Hakimi denies allegations that he raped a 24-year-old woman in the Paris region in 2023. Scotland started with five defenders compared to their first Group C win against Haiti; Nathan Patterson and Kieran Tierney were brought into the side as coach Steve Clarke bolstered his backline.

Clarke opted to play with a lone striker in Che Adams, relegating Lawrence Shankland to the bench. He also brought in Ryan Christie to replace speedy winger Ben Gannon-Doak.

Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi decided to start youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi after the French-born 18-year-old’s outstanding performance against Brazil. The Moroccans made no changes from their opening match, with a four-man defense and striker Brahim Diaz up front.

Squads:

Scotland: Angus Gunn; Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson, Grant Hanley, Jack Hendry, Nathan Patterson; Scott McTominay, John McGinn, Ryan Christie, Lewis Ferguson; Che Adams

Morocco: Yassine Bounou; Achraf Hakimi, Issa Diop, Chadi Riad, Noussair Mazraoui; Ayyoub Bouaddi, Azzedine Ounahi, Ismael Saibari, Bilal El Khannouss, Neil El Aynaoui, Brahim Diaz
The United States advanced to the last 32 of the World Cup with a 2-0 win over Australia on Friday, as Brazil prepares to begin its campaign against Haiti. A day after Mexico sealed its place in the knockout rounds, the United States emulated its fellow World Cup hosts by defeating Australia in Seattle. Cameron Burgess’ own goal in the 11th minute and Alex Freeman’s outstanding effort two minutes before half-time sealed a comfortable victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s team, advancing to the second stage of the tournament with a game to spare.

After an unconvincing surge, the Americans got off to a dream start in the tournament with Friday’s win after defeating Paraguay 4-1 in last week’s opening match.

In fact, if Türkiye loses or draws against Paraguay in the last match, the co-host team may even take first place in Group D on Friday. “It was another great game. We won against a very tough team,” Pochettino said.
