Aaron Judge thanks ‘ghosts’ of Monument Park for season-saving home run

Aaron Judge’s season-saving home run on Tuesday night was no ordinary long ball.
The soon-to-be three-time MVP tied the game with a three-run blast after spinning in at 99.7 mph on a leg that hit the foul pole. This was the first time a pitch had been hit for a home run this fast and inside since pitch tracking began in 2008. This was also the first time Judge hit a home run on a pitch over 99.5 mph.
Normally, a ball this far inside would result in a foul ball when pulled into the air. But this isn’t it, and Judge may have some Yankee legends to thank.

“You never know if the wind is going to foul it and keep spinning,” the judge said. “But I guess a few ghosts in Monument Park helped keep it fair.”
Judge also made a joke about a shot out of bounds, throwing some shade at the critics.
“I used to get told off for going out of zone with them, but now I get praised for it,” he said.

The three-run jack completed the Yankees’ comeback after falling behind 6-1, forcing Carlos Rodon to leave the game before the end of the third inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. He added a solo shot in the fifth and recorded 22 outs without allowing a run, with the swinging bullpen standing upside down as the Yankees struck out two more.
The Yankees entered the contest one loss away from elimination in the five-game American League Division Series against their AL East rival Toronto Blue Jays. For a while it looked like the Blue Jays were definitely going for a sweep.
Instead, the two foes will return to the Bronx on Wednesday night at 7:08 PM ET on FS1.

Six days after pitching eight scoreless frames against the Boston Red Sox, rookie sensation Cam Schlittler will head to the Yankees, while the Blue Jays head to a bullpen game started by Louis Varland — the same pitcher who hit Judge with that inevitable home run.
