Met Office warns ‘check homes’ as UK braced for thunderstorms | Weather | News

Met Office released a yellow air warning for 64 areas throughout England, and residents called on heavy shower, lightning and powerful winds to secure the items around their homes. The storm warning will be in force from 2 to 5 pm on Thursday and a group of heavy shower and storms will be established throughout the country.
This can lead to local flood, spray and sudden flash floods, and create dangerous driving conditions and potential road closure. In places where flood or lightning strikes occur, delays and cancellations for train and bus services are possible, and power cuts and service disruptions may affect some homes and businesses.
There is also a risk of damaging the flood water, full, strong winds or lightning strikes of houses and buildings. In order to minimize these risks, Met Office advises people in vulnerable areas to protect their property and ensure that people are safe. Residents are asked to secure moving objects and temporary structures before strong conditions arrive. In particular, seven elements emphasized are garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, huts and fences.

Met Office Warning: “Prepare to protect your property and people from injuries. Before the winds arrive, check that moving objects or temporary structures are well guaranteed.

“If you find yourself outside and hear thunder, protect yourself by finding a safe closed shelter (like a car).
The places that are expected to be influenced include Nottingham, Derby, Durham, Lancashire, Manchester, Yorkshire, Cardiff, Swansea and Gloucestershire.
