Shubman Gill breaks Virat Kohli’s record, youngest to 4,000 IPL runs

GT skipper Shubman Gill surpassed the record previously held by Kohli, who reached the 4,000-run milestone in 2016 at the age of 27 years and 195 days. Gill currently has 4,031 runs in 118 IPL innings at an average of 39.91. He has 28 fifties and four hundred to his name.

In terms of number of deliveries bowled, Gill became the fifth fastest batsman to score 4,000 runs in the IPL. KL Rahul, who has crossed the 4,000 IPL run mark in just 104 innings, tops the charts.
Gill scored 56 runs from 40 balls, including six boundaries and a six, as GT chased the target of 165 runs. While Gill was dismissed for 56, the foundation he laid helped his team chase down a 37-ball 60 off 18.4 overs with the bat of Jos Buttler. GT won by seven wickets.
After the win, GT sit at the fifth position in the IPL 2026 points table with four points from two wins and two losses. LSG, on the other hand, broke the same win-loss record and fell to sixth place.

In the first innings, LSG posted 164/8, with only Aiden Markram (30 from 21 balls, five fours and a six) crossing the 20-run mark, while Krishna picked 4/28 in his spell. Fifties from Gill and Buttler during the chase helped GT reach the target safely with seven wickets and eight balls remaining.
