South African Matthew Gruter detained after visa cancelled following anti-Jewish rally in Sydney
Gruter was working as an engineer for multinational firm Aurecon in Sydney. The company did not respond to multiple requests for comment. He had been in Australia on a visa for about three years.

A public fundraising page set up for Gruter has raised $16,000. “Tony Burke’s unjust decision may go unchallenged and at least we can all be relieved of the financial burden on him and the distressing move for him and his young family,” the text on the page said.
Some of the donors’ usernames and messages contained Nazi overtones.
reporter After the rally on November 9, Gruter was identified along with other members of the NSN. One of them, Alex Volvach, is a Russian-trained contractor with a police-issued license to install and maintain security devices.
