WA’s top school 2025 based on highest-performing Year 12s in ATAR courses

Perth Modern School took back the crown WAs Best school for the number of ATAR subjects achieved by Year 12 students last year.

The state’s only fully academically selective school, it regularly tops league rankings, but last year was knocked out of the top spot by another public school, Shenton College.

Western Australia analyzed the announced data on Wednesday by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority to produce a school ranking.

The rankings are based on how often each school named Year 12 students who achieved high grades in individual subjects.

Ninety-four schools were recognized as having top-performing students on ATAR courses in 2025, an increase of five on last year.

Of these, 13 schools had their names listed in 10 or more subjects.

Perth Modern is rewarded with an incredible 23 courses, ranging from chemistry to geography, psychology to Tamil, the primary language spoken in Sri Lanka and Southern India.

There were 5 public schools in the top 10.

Western devised the ranking measure after education authorities stopped publishing schools’ average ATAR scores, which had previously been the basis for school rankings in Western Australia.
