Microsoft, Cognizant and Intel Chiefs meet PM Modi in efforts to boost AI adoption in India — Here’s what we know

Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of US-based global technology giants Microsoft, Cognizant and Intel met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, with the aim of increasing the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director S Rajesh Varrier and Intel Corporation CEO Lip-Bu Tan had an individual meeting with PM Modi to discuss AI, technology and investments in India.
$17.5 billion mega investment from Microsoft
Following his meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, in his social media post on X, announced that the US-based technology giant has made its largest investment ever in Asia as the company plans to invest $17.5 billion.
Microsoft plans to develop the infrastructure, skills and sovereign capabilities required for artificial intelligence (AI) required for India’s future AI ambitions.
Responding to Nadella’s post about “India’s youth will leverage this opportunity to innovate and harness the power of artificial intelligence for a better planet,” he said.
Modi’s meeting with Congnizant
PM Modi also held a meeting with Congnizant’s CEO Ravi Kumar and the company’s Chairman and Managing Director S Rajesh Varrier, where they discussed the company’s partnership with India in futuristic sectors.

During the meeting, company executives discussed increasing the adoption of AI in India as well as boosting India’s AI capabilities and productivity by advancing education and skills development in the country.
“Our CEO also confirmed to PM Cognizant’s continued commitment to India and briefed him on our plans to expand into emerging cities to promote equitable growth and talent development,” the company said in a post published on X.
Intel and India’s semiconductor vision
In his meeting with Lip-Bu Tan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of global technology giant Intel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the US-based firm’s commitment to the country’s semiconductor journey.

Lip-Bu Tan revealed in his social media post on X that the duo talked about various topics related to technology, computing and India’s immense potential.
“I applaud the Prime Minister for rolling out a comprehensive semiconductor design and manufacturing policy, and Intel is committed to supporting the India Semiconductor Mission,” Intel CEO said in his latest post.
These meetings come at a time when India is receiving major investment commitments from other US tech giants. Earlier in October, Microsoft’s technology rival Google had announced a $15 billion investment plan for a 1 gigawatt (GW) AI data center in Visakhapatnam.
Earlier this year, Amazon Web Services also announced that it would invest $7 billion to set up data centers in Telangana. Overall, Big Tech’s AI-centric data center investment plans have reached $42.5 billion so far, including Microsoft’s latest commitment in the country in 2025.
