Ambani family postpones New York cultural event amid fraught U.S.–India trade ties
Mumbai (Reuters) -Billionaire Ambani’s family postponed a cultural showcase in New York, referring to the “unpredictable conditions”, a decision made after Sharching Washington’s Russian oil purchases sharply on imported Indian goods.
Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center (NMACC) did not provide detailed information about the reasons for the postponement of the “Indian weekend”, which will be opened in Lincoln Center on September 12th, but this movement came by worsening the US-India ties.
President Donald TrumpLast week, the administration increased tariffs on a number of Indian imports to 50%. US officials criticized India’s discounted Russian crude oil purchases by saying that they have dull their efforts to end the Russian War in Ukraine.
Reliance Industries, controlled by Muteh Ambani, operates the world’s largest refining complex in Gujarat and is the largest Russian oil receiver in India.
Nita Ambani, the wife of Mukesh Ambani and presided on the cultural center, would host a cultural activity with a demonstration called Michelin -Star Chief Vikas Khanna and designer Manish Malhotra and a demonstration called “Great Indian Musical: Civilization Civilization”.
In the first half of 2025, India defended its purchases from Russia, which made up 35% of its supply for economic reasons, and criticized the US and the European Union to choose the new Delhi about Russian oil acquisitions.
Reliance Industries has a rude supply arrangement for approximately 500,000 barrels per day with Russia, the biggest agreement between India and Russia. Reliance is also significantly exposed to the US market.
At the annual address held on Friday, Ambani called on the Indian businesses to “work as a big coalition with the Union” to protect the economy from external shocks, and called more self -confidence in key technologies and industries.
“This is not a cancellation, not just a pause, but we are completely determined to bring NMACC to New York at a later date.” He said.
