Bill that could give Bears long-term property tax break in stadium project set for committee hearing

New moves in Springfield this week could pave the way for a new Chicago Bears stadium.
The House bill, known as the megaproject, would provide long-term property tax relief to the Bears, according to ABC7 Chicago news partner the Daily Herald.

Sources tell ABC7 Chicago the Bears and legislative leaders have met weekly since December to discuss having the state pay for infrastructure around the stadium and having the team pay for the stadium itself.
This comes as Indiana state leaders are trying to move the team out of Illinois, with offers from cities like Gary and Portage.
And Arlington Heights keeps the pressure on.

The Bears also explored a proposed site near Hammond, and Indiana lawmakers are in full swing before the end of their spring session in just a few weeks.
Some see the reluctance of some Chicago lawmakers, who still hope to keep the Bears in the city, as the reason the deal didn’t get done.
Sources say the Bears are expected to make this big decision in the coming weeks.
