Star of the show! Astronomy Photographer of the Year entries are revealed

The magnificent images of our sky and galaxy appeared after thousands of entrances to the astronomical photography contest of the year.

The winners are exhibited at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in southeast of London.

Tom Rae from New Zealand won the SkysCapes category. The photograph captures the Milky Way seeds with the Milky Way core to the left of the image, the famous southern cross and other pointers in the central sky.

Weitang Liang, Qi Yang and Chuhong Yu from China won the Galaxies category with this image.

Andre Vilhena’s image from Portugal praised the category of plants comets and asteroids. This image shows Mars when it becomes retrograde
Marcella Giulia Pace from Italy won the Moon category. This image captures the atmospheric fracture phenomenon in which the moonlight is bent in a similar way to light rays through a prism, and moonlight passes through the intense layers of the world’s atmosphere.
