Hockey fan goes into labor during Oilers game vs Golden Knights

An NHL fan who was at Rogers Place to watch the Edmonton Oilers play the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday gave birth in the arena during the game, according to a broadcaster.

Oilers play-by-play Jack Michaels made the statement as Sportsnet went back on the air at the start of the third period.

“Breaking news, we got word that someone was in labor here tonight,” Michaels said. “A baby is being born on the seventh floor of Rogers Place as we speak. So someone will have a great story to tell. It would be nice to have them join us on ‘After Hours’ to tell what happened, but that might be a bit of a stretch.”

No information about the baby, including the baby’s name, was provided. If the child is a boy, perhaps Edmond or Edmund would be a suitable name.

Meanwhile, the Oilers lost 5-1 to the Golden Knights. Brett Howden and Jeremy Lauzon each had a goal and an assist. Colton Sissons, Mark Stone and Rasmus Andersson also had a goal each.

Vegas goaltender Carter Hart made 31 saves in the win as the team remained perfect since John Tortorella was named head coach.

Both teams are in the middle of the league title race. Edmonton maintained its narrow lead over the Anaheim Ducks with five games left in the season. Each team has 87 points this year.

With the win, Vegas moved one point behind both teams.
