Timothy Olyphant reveals he avoids computers on ‘SmartLess’ podcast

You could call it an old-school approach.
Timothy Olyphant explained that he had to revive an old computer to log in. “SmartLess” podcast. He eventually used a friend’s office to conduct the interview.
“I needed a computer,” Olyphant, 58, told hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. “I guess if you don’t have a computer you can’t do your show.”
As landlords pressured him, Olyphant doubled down on his surprisingly low-tech lifestyle.

“You know, I have a phone and I have something,” the “Right” star said. “That’s all you have to do.”
“I’m not buying this,” Bateman questioned. “As an artist, don’t you have an iPad with one of those little stylist pen things?”
The “Five Star Weekend” actor later explained that although he technically had a desktop computer, it sat unused long enough to become a project in itself.
“We went… I… went and pulled out an old desktop computer that we still had at home, plugged it in and turned it on, it was all USB.”

The aging machine proved to be another obstacle. After digging up the old desktop and getting it working, Olyphant joked that appearing on the podcast took a lot more effort than expected.
“There was a lot of sacrifice put into these guys,” he admitted. “And don’t get me wrong, I appreciate it… I’m very honored and very happy to be here. I’m a huge fan. I listen – I don’t listen – but I read the transcripts. And the show is very good. Very, very, very good.”
Bateman wasn’t ready to stop talking, continuing to question Olyphant’s hatred of computers.
“But wait, Tim, haven’t you ever been tempted to buy a laptop or desktop computer just to see the view outside, like all the different sites you can visit?” Bateman said.
“I felt demeaning,” Olyphant replied.

Bateman then shifted the topic to artificial intelligence and wondered if Olyphant was interested in technology despite staying away from computers.
“We’re talking about all this artificial intelligence and stuff. Don’t you wonder what all the fuss is about?” the “Arrested Development” actor added.
“But you can do all this on small phones,” Olyphant emphasized.

Olyphant earned his breakthrough role in 1999 in the cult crime comedy “Go.” His performances in “Deadwood” and “Justified” cemented his star status. His other notable works include “Santa Clarita Diet,” “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
