Chinese diplomat Liu Jianchao taken in for questioning, WSJ reports
Wall Street Journal said on Sunday, (Reuters) -liu Jianchao was removed by officials who were seen as a high -level Foreign Minister, who is seen as a future potential future Foreign Affairs.
WSJ reported that Liu was taken to Beijing after a overseas tour in late July.
The Chinese State Council Information Office and the Chinese Communist Party International Liaison Department, which manages media queries for the Chinese government, did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comments.
The 61 -year -old Liu held the corpse of the Communist Party responsible for led ties with foreign political parties. Since he took part in 2022, he went to more than 20 countries and met officials from more than 160 countries.
Liu’s intense program, especially in Washington, former US Foreign Minister Antony Blinken meetings, the former ambassador and the spokesman of the ministry increased expectations as to be considered as the next Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The detention points to the highest -level investigation of a diplomat, which includes a diplomat after rumors of an out -of -marriage incident in 2023, the protégé of China’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and President Xi Jinping.
Born in the northeastern province of Jilin, Liu specialized in English at Beijing Foreign Studies University and studied international relations in Oxford before his first task with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He served as the Ambassador of China to England and later Indonesia and the Philippines.
During his time as a spokesman for the ministry, he was known for a humorous handcuffed interpretations while making a ridiculous defense of China’s interests.
