Sex offender accused of vandalizing Oklahoma Capitol with anti-ICE threats

A registered sex offender is accused of defacing the Oklahoma State Capitol and other government buildings with anti-ICE graffiti that read “KILL THE ICE” and other inflammatory messages aimed at Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt, according to authorities.
Shelby Lang Smith was arrested on January 23 for multiple incidents of destruction of public property, including damage to the Civic Center, the OKC Municipal Court building, and the State Capitol.
Smith faces several charges, including 10 counts of malicious destruction of property and 3 counts of threatening violent action, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Smith sentenced to five years in prison Feb. 18 for parole violation, FOX 25 reported.

He was convicted in 2022 of encouraging sexual intercourse with a minor using technology, the source reported.

“The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) is charged with the protection of the State Capitol and the safety of those who work in and visit this building,” OHP said in a statement on Facebook. he wrote.
“We will aggressively investigate and pursue anyone who threatens this security or damages public property,” the agency continued. “Acts of vandalism and threats of violence against the Capitol will not be tolerated.”
