Pete Alonso rips on traffic, crushes homer against Yankees in return to NYC
Pete Alonso came to New York City as part of a visiting team for the first time in his MLB career.
But he didn’t go to the walkway at the old Citi Field on Friday; He was heading to the Bronx when he and his Baltimore Orioles teammates were playing against the New York Yankees.
And Alonso knew from the first moment that he was back in the Big Apple, and it was all thanks to the city’s trademark nightmare traffic.

Baltimore’s top goaltender was asked about his feelings when he arrived back in town, and he went straight to blocking traffic.
“We flew to Newark and then I said, ‘We’re definitely going back because we hit an unbearable wall of traffic,'” Alonso told SNY. “So it was definitely like, ‘Yeah, okay, we’re here. We’re back; we’re definitely back. This is definitely New York City.'”
SNY’s Michelle Margaux asked him if that means there’s no traffic in Baltimore.
“No, it is, it’s not just an unbearable wall of traffic,” he joked.

Alonso, who started his career with the Mets in 2019, said it was great to be back and go back in time.
Speaking of memory lane, Alonso probably had fans thinking back to his rookie season when he hit 53 home runs with his performance this season.

He hit a bomb at the top of the second inning, connecting on a 1-1 pitch to Yankees righty Will Warren, sending the ball into the second pile in right field.
The cameraman seemed almost in disbelief at how far this had gone.
It was Alonso’s fifth home run of the year and arguably one of the sweetest runs of his career.

Now, the only catch that might taste even sweeter is if the O’s get a hit when they travel to Queens for a three-game series against his former team.
