Sen John Thune indicates there are not enough votes to eliminate filibuster

As President Donald Trump pressures Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, Senate Majority Leader R.S.D. John Thune said in an interview on Fox News Radio’s “Guy Benson Show” that “there are no votes” to eliminate the “60-vote threshold.”

Although Republicans have a majority in the upper chamber, procedural hurdles check the majority party’s power because of the threshold required to advance issues to a vote in the chamber.

Thune suggested there likely would be no more than 10 to 12 of the 53 GOP senators who would vote to eliminate the filibuster.
