PM Modi Discusses Bilateral Relations, Regional Developments With US President Trump | India News

Prime Minister Naredra Modi said on Thursday she had a warm and engaging meeting with US President Donald Trump in which the two leaders discussed bilateral and international issues. PM Modi also said that India and the US will continue to work for global peace. The two leaders exchanged views on expanding cooperation in trade, critical technologies, energy, defense and security and other priority areas that are central to the implementation of the India-US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Trade and Technology) in the 21st century. The two leaders reviewed the progress of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and expressed satisfaction over the steady strengthening of bilateral cooperation in all areas.

In his statement to X, Prime Minister Modi said, “We had a very warm and interesting meeting with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the USA will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity.”

Both leaders agreed to work closely to overcome common challenges and advance common interests. It is noteworthy that the call came in the middle of two important developments that have occurred in the last few days. The call also comes in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India last week, while a US delegation is in India to advance trade talks.

India-US Trade Talks

Indian Commerce Minister Rajesh Agrawal and US Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer held talks on the proposed bilateral trade agreement between the two countries here on Wednesday.

“The two sides exchanged views on issues related to India-US trade and economic ties, including the ongoing negotiations for a mutually beneficial Bilateral Trade Agreement,” the Ministry of Commerce said in a post on Commerce X. he said.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said ongoing trade talks between Indian and US officials were progressing well but also said there was no deadline for signing a deal.

Putin’s Visit to India

Prime Minister Modi’s statement that the two countries are committed to global peace is also an indication that he discussed the Ukraine war with US President Trump. With Putin making a historic visit to India a few days ago, Prime Minister Modi and President Trump are likely to have discussed the ongoing situation between Russia and Ukraine.
