Afghans carried out two suicide bombings in Pakistan

Pakistani Interior Minister Muhsin Naqvi said that Afghan citizens carried out two suicide attacks in Pakistan this week, one of which was in the capital Islamabad.

Both bombers involved in the attacks were identified as Afghans, he told parliament in a session broadcast live on television.

There was no immediate response from Kabul.

Naqvi was speaking after a suicide bomber detonated himself near a police patrol outside a lower court in Islamabad on Tuesday, killing 12 people and wounding 27.

On Monday, another bomber killed three people by hitting the main gate of a military school in the South Waziristan region near the Afghan border with an explosives-laden vehicle.

The militants then entered the military-run but civilian-taught school, triggering a fight with Pakistani soldiers that lasted more than 24 hours until all of the attackers were killed.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been strained in recent years, with Islamabad accusing militants who have taken refuge across the border of carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul denies providing safe haven for militants to attack Pakistan.

Dozens of soldiers lost their lives in border clashes between the two countries last month.
