Football fans in the UK eagerly awaiting kick-off of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next week will not be able to watch the match in some Wetherspoon bars.

The pub chain has confirmed it will broadcast World Cup matches live at its venues, but a small number will be excluded from the event because they do not have TV screens. The football tournament will take place from Thursday 11 June until Sunday 19 July, so fans looking to watch the matches while enjoying a glass or two will have to check that their local Wetherspoon isn’t one of the few pubs unable to screen the action.

As part of the World Cup celebrations, Wetherspoon is offering customers a range of international beverages to enjoy throughout the tournament, with many coming from the same countries as the competing teams.

As well as a range of drinks, Wetherspoon will be serving food until 11pm, and customers can cash in three small plates for £15.

The 23rd FIFA World Cup is co-hosted by sixteen cities, 11 of which are in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada, and is the first city hosted by three countries. This is also the first tournament in which 48 teams took part, down from 32 previously.

The first match will be played between Mexico and South Africa on Thursday, June 11 at 20:00 in England.

As for England’s interests, Scotland will play their first match against Haiti on Sunday 14 June, kick-off at 2am (UK time), while England’s first match will be against Croatia on Wednesday 17 June, kick-off at 9pm (UK time).
