Andrew and Fergie could become ‘targets’ over Epstein links | Royal | News

A top US private investigator claims Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson could be targeted because of their ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Ed Opperman, who also hosts a popular American crime podcast, fears the former royal family is at risk following 23 “suspicious” deaths – most officially listed as suicides – of men and women involved in the late pedophile’s evil empire.

Mr Opperman said of Andrew: “He probably has more dirt on other people than Ghislaine Maxwell”; this is a reference to Epstein’s British “fixer” who spent 20 years in federal prison for child sex trafficking.

He added: “Given the suspicious deaths linked to Epstein, it is very likely that he was a target.”

Addressing the former prince’s arrest in February – on what would have been his 66th birthday – and being questioned about allegations of misconduct in public office, the private investigator explained why some may want him silenced. “He seems like the type who would turn around and start talking to avoid going to jail. He’s never worked a day in his life and he wouldn’t last even 30 minutes in jail.”

Andrew vehemently denied any wrongdoing in his dealings with Epstein.

According to Mr Opperman, Fergie, who has failed to sell her memoirs to publishers in New York, should be equally careful, as the Express has revealed.

His warnings came after royal author and historian Andrew Lownie claimed that Epstein conspired to silence the couple while behind bars before his prison suicide in 2019.

Mr Lownie, author of the bestseller The Rise and Fall of the House of York, told a US podcast: “He spoke to a hitman, a former member of the British SAS, and said he wanted the Yorks dead. He wanted to eliminate them. I have been told this by two reliable sources, one a former FBI agent in Paris and the other in Florida, and I believe that to be true. I don’t know how far he went in his plans.”

“But I think he was very nervous before he died. Jeffrey became paranoid that the Palace was going to kill him. If Jeffery hadn’t died, Andrew and Fergie would have been killed. They knew too much.”

The author added: “It is extraordinary and resembles a scene from The Day of the Jackal, but nothing in this epic is normal.”

Andrew recently called for the reinstatement of the taxpayer-funded police protection afforded him as prince, but royal watchers think it is unlikely he will again be protected around the clock by the Royal Family and the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Protection Command as he is no longer a senior royal.

His request follows a confrontation last month with a balaclava-clad man who scaled the perimeter gate of his older brother King Charles’ new Marsh Farm residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Alex Jenkinson, 39, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior to harass, alarm or cause distress.

Mountbatten-Windsor’s former biographer, Nigel Cawthorne, said: “With his popularity in Britain approaching zero, I believe that if he is not prosecuted in this country he may eventually seek refuge abroad and spend the rest of his life in very lonely exile. I think he will see this as the safe and sensible thing to do.”
