This week, as Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi spoke, left-wing activists disrupted an event at a Jewish temple in New York to protest his vote in favor of a government spending bill that includes more funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Demonstrators affiliated with the activist group Climate Defiance interrupted Suozzi at the temple on Long Island on Wednesday night and unleashed a barrage of crudely theatrical and profane insults. New York Post.
“We confronted Congressman Tom Suozzi,” Climate Defiance wrote to X. “He is one of seven Democrats who cast the deciding vote to increase ICE funding by $10,000,000,000. A disgusting, grotesque, fascist-loving coward, this man has blood on his hands. We will not forgive and we will not forget.”
According to the New York Post, in the video of the outage that has been viewed millions of times online, activists are seen heaping the congressman with accessories such as adult diapers and knee pads, while mocking his support for additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

One protester showed Suozzi an adult diaper and said: “I know you voted to increase ICE funding, so I wanted to get you something. This is the adult diaper used to pee in front of Donald Trump. You’re the kind of leader we need right now. Someone who gets himself dirty when the fascists come knocking.”
Another showed off her knee pads and said: “I actually have some gifts – some knee pads for you – you can use them when you’re with Donald Trump.”
A third person said: “I have never felt safer as a Jew than when there is a masked Gestapo on the street, so thank you Congressman Tom Suozzi for funding ICE.”
Comedian and activist Walter Masterson appeared to have been kicked out of the temple during the confusion as he tried to read aloud the names of people he said had died in ICE-related incidents.

“Nine people have been killed by ICE this month and you throw me out while I’m reading their names? How dare you!” Masterson shouted.
Days after the vote, Suozzi publicly apologized for supporting the DHS spending package, which included nearly $10 billion in additional funding for ICE. Politico reported.
The apology came after intense backlash from fellow Democrats and the fatal shooting of 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents in Minnesota, according to the New York Post.

“I failed to view the DHS funding vote as a referendum on ICE’s illegal and immoral conduct in Minneapolis,” Suozzi said in a statement. “I hear the anger of my constituents, and I take responsibility for that. I have long been critical of ICE’s unlawful behavior, and I must do a better job of showing that.”
Suozzi joined six other Democrats who crossed party lines to help Republicans narrowly pass the DHS funding measure by a 220-207 vote, Politico reported.
