WA Police issue warning over online, social media sales after Cannington spike in crime
Cannington detectives have issued a warning to people selling items online via social media or classified advertising platforms following a recent spate of thefts in several suburbs.
Police said criminals target garages and sheds to steal off-road and road-registered motorcycles. Investigations have revealed a link between some crimes and online sales.
“In many cases, criminals obtained information about a motorcycle after reviewing photos taken at a dealer’s home or by using fake profiles to arrange inspections,” police said.
WA Police have urged people to be careful when selling high-value items online.
“Avoid sharing images or information that could reveal your address or where your property is stored, and review security regulations to ensure motorcycles are safe and kept out of sight as much as possible,” officials said.
