Met Office issues 18 hour weather warnings for 57 areas | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for 57 areas across the UK due to the busy Easter weekend travel period. New yellow warnings for wind will be in place for 18 hours from 6pm on Saturday 4 March until 12pm on Sunday 5 March.
The Met Office said peak winds of 50-60 mph would be possible fairly widely, with 60-70 mph in more exposed locations. Winds can even reach speeds of 80-90 miles per hour in some parts of Scotland. The warnings state: A rapidly deepening area of low pressure is likely to move north-west or near the north-west parts of the UK on Saturday evening and night, reaching the North Sea by Sunday. While there is some uncertainty about the exact path, intensity and shape of this low pressure area, strong west to southwest winds are expected to gradually ease throughout the day through Saturday night and into the first part of Easter Sunday. Peak wind gusts of 50-60 mph will be quite widely possible, with 60-70 mph in more exposed locations. There is a slight chance of very strong winds occurring in parts of Scotland, particularly in the west; Wind gusts of 80-90 miles per hour may be possible in areas that remain exposed for a while here.
Residents in affected areas have been warned that there may be some delays in road, rail, air and ferry transport and cancellation of services is also possible.
There is a “small chance” of power outages potentially affecting other services such as mobile phone coverage.
Damage to buildings, such as flying tiles off roofs, is also possible; However, there is a “small chance” that injuries will occur due to large waves and beach materials being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
