Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) national president H D Deve Gowda on Saturday clarified that there is no question of his party severing ties with the NDA under any circumstances.

Addressing party workers and leaders at the JD(S) silver jubilee celebrations, he said, “We have full faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.”

“We are firmly committed to the NDA. We have confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. There is a strong government under him. Our workers and leaders should never forget this,” he insisted.

Recalling the party’s long association with national politics, he said: “We worked with Jayaprakash Narayan and the Jan Sangh during the Emergency, the second freedom struggle. We must continue to work together for the interest of the nation. The Congress must be taught a lesson for its misrule.”

Comparing his party with the Janata Dal (U) led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Mr. Gowda said, “JD(U) in the north. JD-S in the south… Here is Nitish Kumar and here is Kumaraswamy.”

“Nitish Kumar has been in politics for 30 years. He has taken oath 10 times. He is a sharp and intelligent political leader. We must keep this in mind as we move forward.” JD(S) and JD(U) are breakaway groups of the original Janata Dal.
