Tadej Pogacar: Tour de France champion throws support behind Socceroos

Four-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar may be the most mysterious yet high-profile fan the Socceroos have ever uncovered.
The Slovenian cycling superstar was interviewed by SBS a day after the first stage of the race and revealed his surprising commitment.
Recalling his country’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup this year, the humorous Pogajar was asked whether the “rumours” about the Socceroos’ hopes of winning the tournament were true.
“Yes, all the way to Australia!” he said.
“Go to football!”
Of course, the modern-day cycling legend may have been a little overwhelmed by his response, but it’s certainly a vote of support that few expected.
And given his habit of wearing yellow jerseys, the Socceroos jersey certainly wouldn’t look out of place.
Pogajar is the overwhelming favorite to become a five-time Tour de France winner, with the iconic race taking place from July 4-26.
If he completes the feat, the 27-year-old will become the fourth person to achieve the feat and the first since 1995.
Lance Armstrong won seven tours before his record was broken due to a major doping investigation.
Meanwhile, the Socceroos will try to survive the World Cup by beating Egypt in the round of 32.
