College teacher on SIR duty in U.P.’s Ghaziabad dies

A 58-year-old biology teacher, who was posted as stand level officer (BLO) for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, died at his Nehru Nagar residence in Modinagar, officials said.
Lal Mohan Singh, a teacher at Modi Inter College of Science and Commerce, allegedly died of brain haemorrhage, district administration officials said on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
However, the college’s principal, Satish Chand Agarwal, told reporters that Singh was unwell and was under “heavy pressure” due to door-to-door verification drives.
“The management had warned that the job had to be completed at all costs. He was working under stress,” he said.
Singh was posted on the post of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Sahibabad Assembly constituency.
“SDM, Modinagar informed me that Lal Mohan Singh died of brain haemorrhage on Friday night and SDM is investigating administrative aspects following the incident,” Modinagar Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Saxena said. he said.
Overhaul of voter rolls has been ongoing across the state since the beginning of November.
Uttar Pradesh has witnessed several cases of suicide and death of BLOs and other officials in the SIR due to overwork, stress and allegations of harassment during the election exercise to update voter lists.
