Germany launches additional measures against Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Berlin (Reuters) -Germany has given additional measures to resist the “shadow fleet” operating in Russia’s Baltic and North Sea.

Western sanctions aimed at reducing Russia’s oil revenues after occupation of Ukraine led to the rise of a wide “shadow fleet” of tankers that help Moscow flow raw exports.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that German officials began to question the scope of insurance against the damage to oil pollution and that the scope of “shadow fleet” ships are often not known because the insurance scope of the insurance companies and European ports avoid.

“Our goal is very clear: We increase the pressure on the Russian shadow fleet and protect the Baltic Sea.”
