All major exit polls predicted that the NDA government in Bihar would return with a landslide victory against the Mahagathbandhan.
Under strict security measures, the vote counting started at 08:00 in the morning, with the first votes being made by mail. It is conducted by 243 Returning Officers (ROs) in the presence of 243 Counting Observers as well as candidates or their representatives.
A day earlier on Thursday (November 13), the opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar, led by Mr. Yadav, raised concerns of a “conspiracy” during the counting of votes in the State Assembly elections, allegedly at the behest of the ruling NDA.
At a press conference in Patna, Mr. Yadav, along with CPI-ML Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and Bihar Krishna Allavaru in-charge AICC, among others, appealed to the Election Commission of India to ensure “impartiality” in the counting of votes.
The RJD leader described the 2020 Assembly elections and claimed: “Mahagathbandhan was certain to form the government, but for the manipulations of pliant officials”.
A record 67.13 percent of voters cast their votes in two-stage voting; this was the highest voter turnout in the state since 1951.
According to the ECI, for the first time in recent history, no discrepancy or malpractice was found in any ballot box after inspection and re-voting was not recommended.
