Republican White supremacy exposed through Trump’s agenda

Dr. From leaked chats to Trump’s political record, the Republican Party’s embrace of White supremacy is no longer secret, it’s a strategy, writes Victoria Fielding.

PRINCE IN 2005 HARRYHe was 20 years old at the time and a international scandal when newspapers published photos showing him wearing a Nazi costume at a fancy dress party.

Put this anger side by side this week’s news he stands out Young Republicans They joined a group chat where they confessed their love HitlerHe called black people “monkeys,” praised rape, and discussed gassing people he disagreed with.

As shocking as this leaked group chat is, we shouldn’t be surprised to see people who see themselves as future leaders of the Republican Party espouse Nazi (and deeply misogynistic) views. Understanding how central white supremacy is Embers For the MAGA movement, just look at the political actions of the Trump Administration.

It feels wrong to have to reiterate how disgusting Nazism was, but it seems it needs to be said.

At school and from my parents, I learned about the rise of the Nazi Party, World War II, and the Holocaust. I remember our class watching Schindler’s ListThe true story of a German businessman who saved hundreds of his Jewish workers. we are reading The Diary of Anne FrankThe true story of a family who hid in an attic for two years to escape capture in Nazi-occupied Netherlands.

I remember how we felt the loss of innocence as young people when learning the history of Nazism. We were devastated to realize that such evil, such murderous horror on such a massive scale, could be inflicted on innocent people in the name of racial hatred. We understood the pure evil of Nazism, a movement that murdered 6 million Jews and other defenseless minorities to fulfill its white supremacist agenda.

Although much of the world still thinks this way about Nazism, over the last 20 years, and especially the last decade, White supremacy ideology and Nazism have been making a dangerous political comeback.

There is a resurgence of white supremacist Nazism in contemporary far-right political cultures in Western society. including Australia and in United Kingdom. This White supremacist movement is growing as right-wing political leaders continue to not only normalize and legitimize White supremacist views, but also pursue White supremacist policies.

The centrality of white supremacy to the culture of the Republican Party became clear as the curtain was drawn on the Young Republicans. group chat. Vice President J.D. Vance – looked panicked – tried to gloss over the scandal claims The only adults who openly discussed their love for Hitler and their enjoyment of rape were children – “young boys” – do stupid things by telling “edgy offensive jokes”.

The truth is that, far from being teenagers playing pranks on the internet, this chat group consisted of adult men and some women. late twenties and early thirties Young Republicans were the ones vying to lead the organization.

More important than these few Republicans caught in the act of pro-Nazi debating (imagine how many were not caught) is that these people are not outliers in the Republican Party, a party that strategically appropriates, legitimizes, and normalizes White supremacy as an electoral strategy and political agenda.

God's heavy hitters take down 'liar, criminal predator' Trump

In 2017, during Trump’s first term as President, White nationalists and neo-Nazis Some in the crowd chanted while protesting the removal of a Confederate statue in Charlottesville “Jews will not replace us”.

thirty two years old Heather Heyer A white supremacist was killed in an act of terrorism when he crashed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters. After this happened, Trump downplayed what happened and famously said: “very good people” on both sides of the conflict.

To continue its strategic rapprochement with and legitimizing white supremacists and Nazis in 2022, Trump was invited White supremacist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and rapper Yes (formally Kanye West) at dinner at his home in Mar-a-Lago, known for his anti-Semitic views. There is also Trump hired multiple people Those under his administration publicly expressed anti-Semitic views, aka white supremacist racism.

But while the Republican President proudly supports Nazis and white supremacists, the party likes to claim that these are not racist movements. These denials were exemplified as follows: expression A statement by the Young Republican organization after the pro-Hitler conversation was made public.

The statement stated the following:

‘We are appalled by the abusive and inexcusable language… This type of behavior is disgraceful, unbecoming of any Republican, and directly contrary to the values our movement stands for.’

What values does the Republican movement represent? What values are these? Those who see ICE agents violently dragging immigrants, including young children, from their homes and sending them to offshore prison camps? Are the values that see the movement going to war against diversity, equality, and inclusion for fear of a person of color challenging historical marginalization in American society?

What about decades of efforts By Republicans to suppress Black voters and disenfranchise them through gerrymandering?

These and more are not just the words of Republicans in group chats, but the actions of a White supremacist political party that uses racial hatred and divisiveness to gain power and then enacts White supremacy through its actions in government.

There was a time, not so long ago, when it was hard to imagine that a political party as visibly racist and pro-White supremacist as the modern Republican Party, espousing Nazism, could exist in mainstream politics. Just wearing a Nazi costume in 2005, let alone carrying Nazi views, was a huge scandal.

But in our dystopian day, this political party not only exists, but also wins elections. This is a sad lesson in how far civilization has fallen in the last 20 years.
