‘Ultimate sacrifice’: police officers hailed as heroes

A detective close to retirement and a temporary senior civil servants, civil servants were killed in an alleged ambush.
Neal Thompson, the senior officer of the detective leader, lost his life in Victoria’s high country, 59 -year -old and 35 -year -old Senior Constable Vadim.
The couple was among the 10 officers who gave a search for a search for a property in Porpunkah in northeast of DEZİ Freeman, also known as Desmond Filby.
Det SNR Const Thompson joined the Victoria Police in September 1987 before completing the general tasks in the Collingwood Police Station and in the Great fraud and state crime cadres.
An adventurer who enjoyed outdoors was sent to Wangaratta’s Crime Investigation Unit in July 2007.
Det SNR Const Thompson spent his last six years with his partner Lisa, who was described as the love of his life.
“Neal had found a new goal since the couple came together and was seriously planning for their close retirement.” He said.
“Neal built a new house with Lisa and had a long list of tasks planned after the last time he overthrew the business.”
Senior Constable Vadim de Waart was a temporary officer in Wangaratta after he started his police career at the Victoria Police Academy in December 2018.
Belgian native, in April 2023 as a senior civil servant before joining the public order intervention team spent three years at the police station.
The police described him as an eternal optimistic and enthusiastic traveler who was fluent in French, Spanish, Flemish and English.
Snr Const de Waart, known to have made scuba diving abroad and took a local motorcycle trips, has recently bought his first house in Melbourne, where his aunts, uncles and cousins lived.
He survived by his family Carolina and Alain and Switzerland’s younger brother Sacha, who lives in Belgium.
Prime Minister Jacinta Allan said that civil servants would talk to their grieving families to express the condolences of the Victorian community.
“These two police officers were brothers, sons and fathers in a statement to journalists.”
“There are people behind this uniform and there are people who love those men in uniform.”
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said that his losses hit the heart of the power, the wider policing family and the Porpunkah community.
“We will all upset this loss in the coming days, weeks and months, and we will deeply miss our colleagues and friends who pay the final sacrifice on the task line.” He said.
“In these difficult times, it is so important that our people stand together and support each other, and I all trust that we will do this with dignity and respect.”
Parity, Victoria Police Union boss Wayne Gatt, “protecting innocents every day, protecting them from evil” is defined by more selfless work, he said.
“Neil and Vadim are proud to wear the uniform with you,” he said.
“We will not forget who you are and what you are doing.”
