CRPF Jawan Injured in IED Blast in Sukma

Sukma: A jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured when a pressurized Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday, officials said.
The incident took place at 1.45 pm in the forest hills near Gogunda under Fulbagdi police station, when a team of security personnel had gone out for a domination operation in the area, a police official said.
He said the jawan belonging to the 74th battalion of the CRPF accidentally came in contact with the pressurized IED, triggering the explosion and causing injuries to his legs. After preliminary treatment, the injured jawan was transferred to Raipur for further medication, the official said.
Maoists often plant IEDs on roadsides and dirt tracks in forests to target security personnel while patrolling the interior of the Bastar region, which consists of seven districts, including Sukma. In the past, civilians have also fallen into such traps set by ultras in the region.
On June 9 this year, Additional Inspector of Police (Konta division) Akash Rao Girepunje was killed and two police constables were injured when an IED planted by Naxalites exploded in a quarry in Sukma district.
