Australia’s best dog-friendly road trips revealed in new national travel ranking
New research has revealed Australia’s most dog-friendly road trips, packed with pet-friendly accommodation options and plenty of parks and beaches to run wild with your pooch.
Rollin’ Car Insurance analyzed 22 of the country’s most iconic rides to find out which rides are truly geared toward pets.
In first place was the Cape to Cape region in Western Australia’s South West, with 159 dog-friendly parks and beaches and 30 pet-friendly accommodation options along 111km of coastline.
This was followed by NSW’s Grand Pacific Drive, which was highly rated for experiences with more than 320 scenic spots to explore along the 140km journey from the Royal National Park south of Sydney to the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.
In third place was the Pacific Coast, which takes you from NSW to Queensland, with around 10 vet clinics every 100km of the journey.
Kris Christou takes his dog, Max, on a road trip more than five hours from home every year to visit his grandmother.
He said one of the most important aspects is knowing where you can stop and take your dog to parks for a run and a potty break.
Mr Christou said Max was very anxious in the car and moaned until it stopped so he could run somewhere.
“We usually stop anywhere that has a park so we can sit and eat some food and let him run around,” she said.
“Sometimes we let him run around in the backseat of the car.”
