Adani Group plans to bring back Formula 1 in Greater Noida, Karan Adani says, ‘I’m very personally engaged…’

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Adani Group is working on strategies to restart Formula 1 motorsport at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Adani Cement Director Karan Adani said on Saturday.
According to official sources, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently visited the track and held talks with Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority officials.
Adani, who is also the MD of Adani Ports & SEZ, while speaking at the 70th Foundation Day of the All India Management Association (AIMA) in the national capital, said: “I am very excited… Obviously the Buda circuit is also coming as part of the deal. I am personally interested in bringing Formula 1 back to India. I think India has a lot of potential. Formula 1 has a lot of followers from India.”
Adani Group is in the hunt to acquire the troubled Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL), the flagship company of the Jaypee Group.
In November 2025, the infrastructure-to-energy group won a majority vote of lenders for the takeover of debt-laden Jaiprakash Associates. ₹The purchase offer of ₹ 14,535 crore included a higher down payment than rival bidders.
Adani also said that he has been following the sport since 2000 and believes that India can create a benchmark for global events such as Formula 1.
“The reputation of India and Indians has increased very, very significantly… I believe that India can truly showcase Formula 1… and be a benchmark for a global event,” he said.
Adani said exposure to such sports is limited in India and people have to go to other countries like Abu Dhabi or Singapore to experience this sport.
He said the restart of Formula 1 would also provide an opportunity to showcase not only the infrastructure but also the country’s hospitality and heritage.
The F1 race was held at Buddh Circuit in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and was stopped due to a tax dispute with the Uttar Pradesh government, which said the event was entertainment and not sports.
