Firefighters Rescue Woman, Son, Pets in Blaze

Hyderabad: Firefighters rescued A. Kanaka Mahalakshmi (65), her son A. Subramanyam (45) and her two pet dogs from a fire that broke out in a G+1 building in Akbarbagh on Sunday.

According to Malakpet station fire officer Mohammed Shoukath, the fire started in the puja room and spread to the bedroom while the inmates were sleeping. “We received a call from our neighbors at 15.26. Our teams came to the scene and saved the citizens by breaking the only entrance door,” he said.

The injured were taken to a private hospital and treated as an outpatient. Firefighters J. Srikanth, S. Anji Reddy, K. Devaram, G. Chaitanya and technical fireman A. Raj Kumar doused the fire within 20 minutes. Items in the house were destroyed in the incident.

While putting out the flames, Srikanth heard dogs barking and alerted his colleagues. The teams rescued two hunting dogs trapped on the back balcony and returned them to their owners. Initial investigation suggested that the cause of this was a short circuit. Chaderghat police said a case of fire accident has been registered and is under investigation.
