M&S to close popular high street branch | UK | News

The store will move out of town to a new store at Weymouth Gateway Retail Park in Dorset. Our new store will open on July 15.

It will feature a food hall, café and a “full range” of fashion, home and beauty products. It will also feature an in-store bakery.

The new location, with 41,000 square feet of retail space, is more than double the size of M&S’s existing St Mary Street branch.

The closure of the store in the town center caused sadness in some citizens.

One said it was a “big, big mistake.”

Another said: “I’m really sorry, it’s been a part of my life since I went to college at Weymouth in the 70s. I like to go for little things most days.”

A third said they would have to take “two buses” to get to the new location.

A fourth complained about another store on the high street being empty.

The move comes as part of M&S’ relocation strategy.

The chain also opened two new full-line stores in the city centre: one in Bath Southgate in February and the other in Bristol Cabot Circus last November.

M&S Food branches have also recently opened in Hatfield, Luton, Farnham and Oxfordshire.

The chain is also planning a refurbishment of its branch in Clapham Junction. The branch will be closed from July 11 to September 2.
