Shab-e-Barat 2026: Commonly offered prayers
On the 15th night of the month of Shaban, Muslims can perform various voluntary prayers and glorify Allah to ask for His blessings. After the evening prayer, which is the beginning of the night, some people perform the two-rakat nafal prayer. After Surah Fatiha in the first rakat, Surah al-Ikhlas is recited three times along with Surah al-Falaq, and in the second rakat, Surah Naas is recited. Believers then pray for the preservation of their faith.
Salat ul Tasbih, a four-rakat nafal prayer focusing on forgiveness, is also commonly offered. During this prayer, the tasbih “Subhanallahi vel hamdulillahi vela ilahe illallahu wallahu akbar” is recited at least 75 times in each rakat.
Some believers also perform the Nafal prayer for two more rakats after the evening prayer; In this rakat, Surah Yasin is usually read along with the Nisf Shaban Prayer with the intention of living a righteous life.
