Dozens arrested in Phoenix anti-human trafficking operation: GCU

phoenix – Grand Canyon University officials said Nov. 6 that their police department is conducting a multi-agency study targeting prostitution and human trafficking.
What do we know?
The operation was called “Operation Fresh Start” and involved the Arizona Department of Public Safety, GCU Police, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Phoenix Police and other units, according to a statement released by GCU.
A GCU spokesman said the operation targeted a portion of 27th Avenue between Indian School Road and Bethany Home Road.
GCU’s statement reads in part: “27th Avenue has become the epicenter of prostitution activity in Phoenix, an area known nationally as ‘The Track’ or ‘The Blade’ due to the propensity for sex trafficking in the area.”

GCU officials said, “Phase 1 of Operation Fresh Start occurred in August 2025 and resulted in the arrests of 47 individuals for misdemeanor prostitution over a three-day period. Two of the individuals arrested were repeat offenders during the three-day period. Additionally, a juvenile victim of child sex trafficking was rescued. Phase 2 on November 5, 2025 resulted in the arrests of 16 individuals for misdemeanor prostitution.”
