Baby ‘Missing’ Scare At Anantapur GGH Turns Out To Be iIlegal Adoption

Anantapur: An embarrassing situation arose at the Government General Hospital (GGH) and Two Town police in Anantapur on Wednesday after rumors spread that a newborn baby had gone missing, but the police later found that the baby had been unofficially given away by the family.

According to sources, Shiva Lakshmi and her husband Sunil from Kakkalapalli in Anantapur rural mandal already have three children. Lakshmi gave birth to her fourth child, a girl, at GGH on January 24, and both mother and child were admitted to the general labor ward.

On Wednesday, reports that the four-day-old baby was missing from the ward led hospital officials to alert Two Town police. Police launched a search by alerting Anantapur headquarters and nearby police stations.

During the investigation, police noticed inconsistencies in the parents’ statements. There were also rumors that the baby was taken away by relatives, including his grandmother, due to family differences.

After a detailed investigation, police found that the parents handed over the baby to a childless couple through an unofficial adoption, citing their inability to care for the fourth child.

Two Town Circle Inspector Srikanth told Deccan Chronicle that the baby was traced and handed over to his mother on Wednesday night. Parents were given a serious warning and the police warned them against such illegal actions in the future.
