A devastating fire broke out in the Delhi Metro staff quarters in Delhi’s Adarsh ​​Nagar, killing a husband, wife and their young daughter. This incident took place just a day after a fire broke out due to a gas cylinder explosion in the top floor flat of a five-storey building in Mandawali on Sunday.

Three firefighters were injured in the Mandawali fire, who were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and are currently out of danger. According to the police, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the room heater and quickly spread throughout the room. The resident immediately ran away and called the fire department, but when the crew arrived the cooking gas cylinder exploded, injuring three firefighters.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) is experiencing a significant staff shortage due to vacancies in key positions, both supervisory and frontline, resulting in staff overload and threatening fire safety across the city. According to DFS statistics, the institution currently employs only 18 assistant section officers (ADOs) while the approved number is 24. These officers are responsible for conducting fire safety inspections and ensuring compliance at more than 5,000 establishments across the city, including restaurants, clubs, hotels, hospitals and commercial complexes.
