Commerce Minister Goyal meets U.S. counterpart Lutnick and Ambassador Gor, discusses trade

Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said that he held a meeting with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Thursday, February 26, 2026, and discussed ways to expand the trade relationship between the two countries.

“US Secretary of Commerce @HowardLutnick and @USAmbIndia hosted Sergio Gor. We participated in very productive discussions to expand our trade and economic partnership,” Mr. Goyal said in a social media post.

The meeting is of great importance as both countries are in the process of finalizing the legal text for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement.

Following the US Supreme Court’s decision annulling US President Donald Trump’s far-reaching tariffs, the US imposed a 10% customs duty on all countries for 150 days.
